The iPhone Duo is available to pre-order in India, and Apple says availability begins on 23 October. That is an availability date, not a promise that every colour and storage configuration will be in stock or delivered that day. Before spending ₹2,99,900 or more, check whether your mobile plan can move to eSIM, how much storage you genuinely use, and whether the foldable layout helps your everyday apps. This guide separates Apple’s India-specific specifications from regional assumptions and manufacturer claims.

iPhone Duo India: practical preorder checks

India preorder status and the price to compare

Apple’s 9 September Newsroom announcement named India among the initial markets, with pre-orders from 16 October and availability from 23 October. The Apple India Store page checked on 18 October lists the phone as a pre-order item and repeats that date. Neither source guarantees stock, pickup or delivery for a particular configuration.

The listed price is the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), inclusive of all taxes, and is the cleanest way to compare configurations. The Store also presents ‘from’ monthly figures with certain card cashback and EMI conditions. Card eligibility, tenure, issuer terms and promotions affect those figures, so they are not MRP or a universal monthly cost.

Do not treat an EMI figure as a shortcut for affordability. Compare the total payable amount for your exact card and tenure; the table is about MRP, not a finance recommendation.

Choose storage from your present use, not the largest number

More storage is not automatically better value. Check used space on your current phone and the size of the photos, video, downloads and offline files you keep. Apple says usable capacity is lower than the headline figure because the system, apps and settings take space.

256GB is a sensible baseline for people who stream media and manage a photo library. Consider 512GB if you already keep a large camera roll, many travel downloads or frequent high-resolution video. Choose 1TB or 2TB when measured usage shows a need for a large local library or project files—not because the phone has a larger screen.

Storage and backup are different decisions. Extra phone capacity does not replace a recovery plan.

eSIM in India: verify the carrier and account before switching

The India technical specifications are explicit: iPhone Duo uses dual eSIM, can keep two eSIMs active and can store eight or more eSIMs. It is not compatible with physical SIM cards. This is the highest-priority compatibility check for anyone moving from a handset that still uses a nano-SIM.

Apple’s India support article, Using Dual SIM with an eSIM, says both numbers can make and receive calls and messages, but the phone uses one mobile data network at a time. Dual active eSIM means two numbers, not two concurrent cellular-data connections.

Transfer, replacement and activation processes vary. Verify these points with the carrier or, for a managed work line, the account administrator.

  1. eSIM support for your exact plan. Confirm the plan—not just the carrier name—supports eSIM on the India iPhone Duo model.
  2. Transfer and replacement eligibility. Ask how an existing number can be moved or reissued, and whether any account, identity or billing condition applies.
  3. Account access. Make sure you can receive any required carrier communications and have the account information the provider requires. For a company line, check the organisation’s policy before changing the SIM arrangement.
  4. Your data-line expectation. Decide which line should normally carry mobile data and understand the provider’s terms for Wi-Fi calling, roaming and data switching.

What the two displays change—and what they do not

Apple lists a 7.6-inch inner folding OLED display and a 5.4-inch outer OLED display. The formal rectangular measurements are 7.58 inches and 5.36 inches, while actual viewable area is smaller because of rounded corners. The outer screen suits quick replies, calls, maps and short reading; opening the phone creates more room for documents, video, web pages and side-by-side work.

Apple says iOS 27 supports Split View, quick app swaps, saved app pairs and two windows of the same app such as Safari. Keeping notes or chat beside a browser, or a call beside shared content, is the everyday use case: fewer switches when two things must be visible.

Apple says developers can adapt apps for the folding design, but that does not guarantee equal layouts or features in every app. Check any work, banking, accessibility or niche app central to your decision. A hinge and flexible display also bring different concerns from a conventional phone.

Touch ID, charging and connectivity: use the India spec sheet

For authentication, plan around Touch ID, not Face ID. Apple’s India specifications list a fingerprint sensor in the side button. The purchase-relevant detail is the stated side-button implementation.

India box contents are the phone, a 1-metre USB-C charge cable and documentation; an adapter is not listed. Apple says fast charging can reach up to 50 percent in around 20 minutes with a 60W-capable or higher adapter and USB-C cable, or around 30 minutes with a 35W-or-higher adapter and MagSafe Charger. The relevant adapter and MagSafe Charger are separately available.

These are Apple manufacturer test claims, not hands-on results from this publication. Charge time varies with equipment, settings, use and environment. India specs also list USB-C with USB 3 up to 10Gbps, but require a 10Gbps-capable cable. Check existing equipment rather than assuming the included cable covers every use.

The India model is A3720 and Apple lists sub-6GHz 5G. Network availability, speed, Wi-Fi calling and 5G access remain carrier- and location-dependent.

Software, language, privacy and region checks before migration

Apple lists iOS 27 and Hindi device-language support. That does not mean every Apple Intelligence or Siri AI feature is available in Hindi: Apple’s feature-language list is narrower and availability can vary by region. Check the feature and language you need before counting it as value.

Before moving data or removing access from an old phone, review the update, language, Apple Account and app-permission settings. Apple says apps must request tracking permission and that iMessage and FaceTime calls are end-to-end encrypted. Those protections do not replace reviewing individual app permissions.

Do not copy feature lists from another country’s model page. India specs list Emergency SOS and Crash Detection but not satellite features, so do not assume satellite messaging, roadside assistance or another satellite function will work in India without current India-specific confirmation and applicable service terms.

Important points and key information

Use this short checklist before placing a preorder decision.

  • Apple’s India Store lists iPhone Duo MRP from ₹2,99,900, inclusive of taxes; displayed EMI figures are conditional payment illustrations, not the device MRP.
  • India’s model is eSIM-only: it supports two active eSIMs but no physical SIM. Only one line can use cellular data at a time.
  • Apple lists a 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer display, plus Split View, but app behaviour can differ by developer and task.
  • The India specifications list Touch ID in the side button, a USB-C cable in the box, and Apple’s own charging and battery test claims. They do not support a blanket satellite-features promise for India.
  • Confirm the exact colour and storage configuration against the India MRP, not an EMI headline.
  • Check that your current mobile plan supports eSIM and that the carrier can support the move you need; confirm account or company-plan requirements.
  • Decide which line will normally use mobile data if you plan to run two active eSIMs.
  • Match 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB to measured current use rather than anticipated status value.
  • Verify the real apps and workflows that would make the inner display worthwhile, including any accessibility tools.
  • Account for Touch ID in the side button, not Face ID, in your preferred unlock routine.
  • Check your USB-C cable and charging-adapter needs; the box listing includes a cable, not an adapter.
  • Review software, language and privacy settings, then check India-specific feature availability rather than relying on another region’s claims.

What is the iPhone Duo price in India?

Apple’s India Store lists MRP, inclusive of taxes, at ₹2,99,900 for 256GB, ₹3,24,900 for 512GB, ₹3,74,900 for 1TB and ₹4,49,900 for 2TB. Card-linked EMI or cashback displays are conditional and should not be confused with MRP.

When is iPhone Duo available in India?

Apple’s Newsroom announcement and India Store page state that pre-orders began on 16 October and availability begins on 23 October. The date does not promise a particular configuration will be immediately in stock or delivered on that date.

Does iPhone Duo in India accept a physical SIM?

No. Apple’s India technical specifications say iPhone Duo uses eSIM and is not compatible with physical SIM cards. It supports two active eSIMs and can store eight or more eSIMs, subject to carrier and plan support.

Can both eSIM lines use mobile data at the same time?

No. Apple’s India support guidance says both phone numbers can handle calls and messages, but the iPhone uses one mobile data network at a time. Choose the normal data line with your plan and roaming needs in mind.

Examples and supporting information: India prices

Apple’s India Store checked on 18 October 2026 lists the following MRP, inclusive of taxes. The price differences are calculated against the 256GB model; this is source-based supporting information, not a hands-on product test or an EMI quote.

StorageIndia MRP, inclusive of taxesDifference from 256GB
256GB₹2,99,900—
512GB₹3,24,900₹25,000
1TB₹3,74,900₹75,000
2TB₹4,49,900₹1,50,000

Conclusion

The iPhone Duo is a meaningful change in iPhone form factor, but its fit in India hinges on ordinary details: carrier support, storage habits, apps, charging equipment and language or feature availability. A source-checked checklist is more valuable than guessing from a headline or a non-India specification page.

Product-status, price and technical details in this explainer were checked against Apple India Store and Apple India technical-specification materials on 18 October 2026, alongside Apple’s 9 September 2026 Newsroom announcement and its 18 September 2026 India Dual SIM support article.
